Key Stage 2 - Years 3 + 4

During the time they are at Swarland the children's work is planned by the teaching staff according to the statutory guide lines from the DfES. It is divided into three Key Stages:-

Foundation Stage - Nursery /Pre-school and Reception

Key Stage 1 - Year 1 and Year 2 children

Key Stage 2- Year 3 and year 4 children


Mrs Dyson is the Headteacher and shares the class responsibility for Years 3 and 4 with Mrs Johnson.
The Key stage 2 children are the oldest children in the school, as such they are given extra responsibilities and experiences. We aim to have fully prepared them for the transition to Middle School. The year 3 and 4 children go on a residential visit to Ford Castle each year as part of their Geography, History and P.E. curriculum. The half -terms work is based around the experience that the children have at Ford - year 1 is based around a study on Castles and year 2 is about The Sea and Rivers.

In Design and Technology our students have been having an exciting time designing, making and testing devices to carry eggs across a river safely.

In our Castles topic we researched Trebuchets and Mangonels and designed our own as a result. some of our Catapults could make a multilink cube fly more than 8 metres. We had a competition to see which was the most successful.
